Picked some rocket, organised and cleared out the greenhouse.

25th April 2012
Went for a long walk along brecon waterfalls with some friends of the ethical chef. A fantastic day out.

24th April 2012
Having worked hard I was treated to a cold beer and a film courtesy of the ethical chef.

23rd April 2012
Gingenious came to film some of the ethical chef recipes , meanwhile I finished off the blackcurrant bushes which kept me busy till the end of the day.

22nd April 2012
While Nic and the ethical chef went to Cardiff for the farmers Market I proceeded to mulch a large group of blackcurrant bushes.

21st April 2012
Today I started cooking with Nic Loye, we made spelt bread along with chocolate beetroot brownies. I also picked stinging nettle tips and garlic leaves for Humus made by the Ethical Chef.

20th April 2012
Mulched 9 blackcurrant bushes. Mulching involves placing a protective cover over soil so in this case for example I used cardboard then placed soil and wood chippings on top, this suppresses weed growth and helps to maintain moisture.

20th April

Sorry no updates, been busy though, so I have much to show you.

Firstly, had another great time at the Market selling a Red Thai Curry using ingredients that I bought from the market that morning and Deri prepared it from scratch serving it with bulgar wheat. Also met some of the local personalities who run the market stalls and got some beautiful photos.

We have also been preparing new ground for a vegetable patch on the farm. Yesterday we rotor-vated  and raked the ground. The next stage is to remove all roots and dig in the compost.

Now, back to the kitchen and garden!…

10th April 2012

Awesome day today, I was super productive. First prepped the beetroot to use in the Beet Boost for Riverside Market, baked 3 loaves of no kneed bread, the Chocolate and Beetroot Cake and then went foraging for Wild Garlic and Nettle tops for Sundays Soup.

9th April 2012

Woke up late today after a little sojourn in town last night but a lovely FairTrade Tea & breakfast before we cracked on with some work on the farm.

Firstly we gathered and stored wood for next winter and then moved on to clearing our composters field (Blossom – the pony). Blossom then had her nails done in time for her trip to the new field which has lots of luscious grass for her to compost.

In the afternoon we cleared out the conservatory of last years tomatoes in preparation for this years growing a really great job to get done as we now have lots of sowing to do.

8th April 2012

My name is Nicholas Loye and I’m currently volunteering atEthicalChef in Carmarthen.

I have travelled here from Norway where I was on a cherry tomato farm that supplied hundreds of different suppliers.

On arrival Deri had organised a big EthicalChef gathering where he cooked for over 20 of his friends and family. It was great to meet so many like minded people, a great way to kick off the hard work ahead of us!
