food rant

Today’s food Industry.

Since the industrial revolution when we manufactured machines to plant, grow, produce, distribute and store our food,  I feel that we are moving towards eating just what is dictated to us by media advertisements.

What worries me about the current situation is that the majority of us buy on cost and we don’t seem to worry about what actually goes into the foods we eat and feed to our children. I bet you wont know what half the ingredients in most foods  actually are these days, so why are we shoveling more and more of them down our throats??

It’s a good question, one I don’t yet know the answer to, other than  the majority of us only try to solve a problem if there is one to solve. For some people there’s no problem with our food industry when our supermarkets are full, our cupboards are stocked and our bellies are bulging.

But what is this doing to our environment and our health? Well let me tell you, it’s destroying them both, maybe not visually here in our cities but you only need to tune into the news to find out what’s happening all around us.

One thing I can’t get to grips with is why we find it so important to educate the children of today with maths, economics, science etc.. when what we really NEED to know about is life skills, health and everyday living to enable us to lead a balanced and healthy life.

So are we going to one day stop and realise one of the most essential things in life is to look after the planet we walk on and to feed ourselves again with the food we evolved on?
