Granola

Prep Time : 10 mins

For those of you who are eager to eat healthily but also like quite a high energy breakfast, this is the perfect recipe. Throw away your Frosties and Sugar Puffs and replace them with this home made Granola.

Granola is an adaptation of muesli for those with a sweet tooth. It’s more or less like a crumbly flap jack with some dried fruit, seeds and nuts added to it.

The great thing about making granola is that it really is your choice what to put in it. My recipe gives a basic starting point with set quantities of butter, sugar, syrup and honey, but if this turns out to be not to your taste, then adjust the sugar content a little next time.

I really do believe that knowing exactly what you are eating is so important these days. We consume a large amount of GM foods without even knowing it, so choose the quality of your ingredients very carefully. Try to pick the Fairtrade sugar over the basic, get the local honey rather than the Value brand, and even choose the organic butter instead of the non-organic. It will cost you a little more but it’s a great way of supporting local businesses and eating healthily at the same time.

Apple Crumble Cake

Prep Time : 15 mins

Cooking Time : 25 mins

Serves : 8

Great twist of the traditional apple crumble, this recipe allows you to get the sensation of eating a layer of apple crumble topping on a base of a sponge cake. Try and use apples local to your area as these are always the best tasting. Im using cookers as I love the sourness of them but feel free to use any of your favourite.
