Cardiff Food Poverty & Waste

Share

Did you know we waste 7.2 million tonnes of food and drink from our homes every year, costing us £12bn?

What can we as the people of Cardiff do to try and tackle this issue?

Who’s heard of Food Cycle? Food Cycle is a charity that has been running in England for the past 5 years, and its concept is a group of volunteers using free kitchen space to cook surplus food donated by supermarkets to feed people most in need!

It’s a fantastic idea which is along the same lines as the Feed Cardiff event that was organised in October 2010 where organisations such as Friends of the Earth, Cardiff Food Alliance & Cardiff Transition teamed up to organise the serving of 700 meals free of charge to the people of Cardiff. The event was a massive success drawing in huge crowds of hungry people and raising the key questions of how and why?

I’d like to try and rekindle some of this energy and organise some events in 2013 with like minded people and organisations who want to tackle food waste and poverty issues here in Cardiff!

If you are interested in being involved as an organiser or volunteer then please leave your email address below and all correspondence will be sent your way.
